Craftsman Remake

Lafayette, CA

We were asked by the owners of a low-slung 1950 ranch house to enlarge and completely remake it as an updated Craftsman residence that would function for an active family of four. The heart of the house is the greatroom with a kitchen, family room, and eating nook united under a high vaulted ceiling. The roof structure with its painted board ceiling with king post and collar ties plays off a similar ceiling preserved in the original living and dining rooms.
